frequently asked questions
Why should I outsource some of my engineering projects?
There are many financial and technical benefits to outsourcing. The financial benefits come from paying only for services performed when they are needed. It can be considered a just-in-time resource that is utilized only when it is needed most. The year-round, long-term costs associated with direct employees such as salary, benefits, hardware and software costs, and administrative overhead may be reduced through the use of consultants. Another financial benefit is getting your product to market faster by using consultants when internal staffing is committed elsewhere.
There are technical benefits from using a consulting company. A good consulting company will be focused on staffing the best people, and keeping them highly trained and certified in the right skills needed by the customer. Typically, consultants will bring knowledge of other industries and technologies that the customer may not have internally.

How will Applied Engineering (AE) be able to work on my project if you don't have an office in my area?
Depending on the type of project, we are able to provide services in a variety of ways. We may begin by having one of our engineers work at your site to gather information. Using the latest technology tools, we may then be able to work on the project with our team of engineers at one of our offices. If needed, our team will travel to your site, for extended periods of time, to ensure the project is completed on-time and implemented to your satisfaction.
How is Applied Engineering (AE) able to help with manufacturing needs?
We work with every stage of product development, from concept to production. Our manufacturing assistance includes building prototypes, designing tooling and fixtures, integrating robotic cells, building automated control systems, finding suppliers, and many other services.
Is it important to migrate my old files to my new CAD software? Can I just do it as needed?
Migrating your old data to your new CAD software all at once can be an effective approach to save time and money. A properly created database of parts will be a foundation on which future designs and modifications can be built. Using an outside resource for data migration will improve the efficiency of your department and allow your engineers to work on projects that utilize their skills and knowledge.

I thought this company was Applied CAD/CAM, Inc; what gives?
At one time we were Applied CAD/CAM, Inc. in Minnesota. We decided that since we offered more than what our name stated, we should change it to something that reflected that. So, we are Applied Engineering Technology, Inc. in Minnesota, and have stayed Applied Engineering, Inc. elsewhere.
