Sustainable Product Design

Now more than ever, Engineers and Designers are asked to be as efficient as possible with the resources they use, while at the same time minimizing the negative impact on the environment. This is true throughout the entire product development cycle, as well as in manufacturing, aftermarket services, etc. This course helps attendees tackle important questions, such as: What material should I use? How can the required time and energy be minimized? Can multiple functions be designed into the product? Is there a plan to dispose or reuse the product at the end of its life? Several tools are demonstrated and passed along to attendees to systematically come up with solutions to these design questions.

Course Topics

  • Sustainable Design Overview
  • Recyclability
  • Alternative Materials
  • DfE (Design for Environment)
